Murdoku โ€” when Sudoku becomes a murder mystery

Murdoku takes the clean placement logic of Sudoku and wraps it in a whodunnit. You read a short case file, place each suspect into the grid so every row and column holds them exactly once, and follow the clues until only one possible killer remains.

How Murdoku works

Instead of digits 1โ€“9, a Murdoku grid is about suspects. The core rule is familiar to any Sudoku player: each suspect appears exactly once in every row and every column. The case text gives you clues โ€” who was seen where, who couldn't have been next to whom โ€” and you use pure deduction to place everyone. When the grid is complete, the layout reveals who was alone with the victim: your killer.

  1. Read the case and note the suspects and clues.
  2. Use the clues to place suspects, keeping each row and column unique.
  3. Eliminate impossible positions step by step โ€” never guess.
  4. Finish the grid and identify the one suspect the logic points to.

Why we recommend it

Murdoku sits right in the sweet spot of the trend that made Murdle and the NYT logic games so popular: a short, daily, shareable puzzle that rewards clear thinking and gives you a little story to chew on. It's a great pick if you love Sudoku's logic but want a change of scenery โ€” and because the official site posts fresh puzzles every week, it's an easy habit to keep.
